Defenders of the Triquilapa Mountain

TWP and COEAS Staff

Our partners at Comité Ecológico Aldea de Suyapa (COEAS) in Honduras have been fighting for over 3 decades to protect the Triquilapa Mountain which is a vital source of water and oxygen to the Aldea Suyapa and Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

The group has embarked in an arduous and lengthy journey to obtain a declaration of the Triquilapa and Cantagallo Mountains as a Wildlife Refuge by the National Congress of Honduras. This declaration goes against the selfish and economic interests of many actors, who continue to put urbanization and development interests over the Indigenous Sovereignty and natural resource rights of the Suyapa community. Despite all the roadblocks they are encountering, they will continue to fight to protect this vital forest that benefits so many.  TWP will be standing with them every step of the way!
