Trees, Water & People (TWP) delivered emergency relief to over 1,000 families after the storms passed, but now comes the hard part - helping people recover their livelihoods, so they don’t have to migrate.
Until August 1st, we are asking for your help to Plant Change in Honduras. This summer, you can help us raise $50,000 to get 50 female cacao and spice farmers started in the production of organic turmeric and ginger as an export crop.
Funds raised will help us provide high quality seed, technical support, and farm inputs to this women-led cooperative’s cacao orchards, which sustained major damage during the hurricanes. High-value, short-cycle spice crops like turmeric and ginger will help them generate income from the understory of their farms while their cacao orchards recover.
More than half of rural women in Honduras do not make any income for their work, and often support entire households with extended family included. This is why we’re honored to help support a cooperative of women farmers who have broken that trend, and are taking charge of their own economic future.
Help us Plant Change in Honduras - $1,000 will cover program costs for one of 50 women farmers over the next year, and will help them recover their economic footing after an unprecedented pair of climate-fueled natural disasters.
