Earlier this month we had the pleasure of hosting 13 of our partners and community leaders from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador at the first Mesoamerican Indigenous People and Local Communities Climate Week, which took place in Panama City.

Our goal for sponsoring the event was to give our partners the mic. These are the individuals closest to the issues and the ones leading this important work on the ground. During the panel, “Weaving networks: initiatives for alternative local economies, agroforestry and community conservation/defense of natural resources,”  each of them had the opportunity to share more about their initiatives with the audience.

Some of them also participated in a workshop of more than 40 Indigenous women leaders about productive systems and their relationship with ancestral agriculture. They all had the opportunity to attend diverse panels where they learned about many other movements across Mesoamerica fighting to reclaim their rights and their land.

It was an inspiring week of exchange with representatives of various Indigenous communities, Women leaders and organizations working for a better climate future for all.
