Volunteer for a Work Tour

We regret that this year's Work Tour has been cancelled due to staff illness. But please think about joining us for the 2009 edition!

Ready to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty? Join us for our fourth Work Tour to Central America on August 2-9, 2008. This year we'll be traveling to Guatemala to plant trees and build Justa stoves.

Besides the satisfaction of knowing that you've helped people to a healthier life, you'll enjoy a unique cultural immersion experience as you live and work side-by-side with Guatemalan project staff and families. You'll make new friends and help TWP plant the seeds of friendship and hope for the future.

Highlights of the 2008 Work Tour to Guatemala will include:

  • Planting trees in a reforestation event with local community members on the south coast
  • Building Justa stoves for several families
  • A thank-you dinner with community members from Tiquisate
  • Guided boat tour of the Monterrico-Hawaii Nature Preserve to view mangrove swamp wildlife
  • Accompanying volunteers from the Preserve to monitor the beach at night for sea turtles
  • A relaxing day on the beach!

What People Say ...

"I found the work we did very gratifying. The Nicaraguans were impressed that we, being from the US, would donate our time to better their future."
2004 Work Tour participant Alan Curtis

"As a volunteer in El Salvador, my experience was educational and inspiring. Everyone I met was incredibly warm, inviting, and gracious. The Tour provided an intimate and memorable opportunity to make new friends, learn about a new culture, and mutually work towards improving the livelihoods and environment of those we worked with."
2005 Work Tour participant Cheryl Wagner

"The warmth with which we were received by families as they invited us into their homes was amazing. The families really appreciate and respect the hard work we do for their communities. Because of that, I feel extremely proud of the work we accomplished. It just feels good to have made such a difference in their lives."
2006 Work Tour participant Natasha Davis
